There is something primitive about black and white prints that make my heart skip a beat. So, the love affair must go on. When making relief prints I love the physical struggle with the wood or lino, the 'taking away' to make simple and strong shapes. Etching and drypoint fulfills another interest: in drawing many lines and attention to detail. These two methods of printmaking each excercise a different part of my brain. Colour does not concern my prints very much. My absolute idols of the printmaking world are the Inuit (eskimo) of Cape Dorset ( Kinnigait ) in Nunavut ( arctic canada ), a print co-op since the 1950's. Their engagement with nature inspires me.
