My prints consider the random glimpses of the urban world. While standing in an ordinary setting I allow the camera to capture images by chance. Looking through these random shots, I select those which represent the imperfectly composed scenes we generally encounter in life. Parts of people or objects may be missing, areas may be blurred and the composition may be off kilter. Potential images are chosen irrespective of visual correctness and may be either abstract or representational. The cold eye of the digital camera capturing moments of an urban reality can be likened to the human eye scanning and automatically accepting mundane scenes. Once an image is chosen it is earthed, humanised or given life by being brought through the tactile process of lino cutting or screen printing. The image undergoes a human intervention and comes out as a mixture of the rather opposing qualities of inhuman starkness and involved effort.
