Elena Santos was born in Salamanca (Spain) in 1976 and moved to Galway in 2012. She studied print-making at the School of Art of Oviedo. After graduation she worked as assistant at Taller Antonio Gallo - one of the most renown artistic litography workshops in Spain. After this experience she decided to persue her studies in fine arts at the University of Salamanca, specializing in painting and print-making. Subsequently she started her PhD studies at the University of Salamanca achieving the Master level after reading her research thesis: Independient Cultural Movements in Castilla and León.

Elena is a visual artist who mainly works on the relation with her surroundings and landscapes in an interdisplinary way, as well as using artistic creation as a tool to deal with personal processes or situations of her private life. In terms of landscape she addresses aspects like the temporality of the landscapes, the non-place, the daily landscapes, the hidden part of the landscapes and also relations like Art-Life or Public-Private.

Over the years she has realized numerous exhibitions and has collaborated with several art- projects in Spain and abroad. One of the project saw her working together with AECID and the Spanish Embassy in Sudan as co-director of the workshop Depicting Khartoum at the Art University of Sudan and as a co-producer of the exhibition Young Art Today will be Ancient Art Tomorrow at the National Museum of Khartoum.
