Collagraph Printmaking

20 Dec 16

collagraph_printmaking_workshopCollagraphy is a printmaking technique which operates, as the name suggests, on the basis of collage, essentially it is a print made from a collage. A variety of materials such as paper, fabric, glue and found objects are glued to a surface (usually cardboard) to create the image. This image is then sealed with a varnish before ink is applied and the print is made using dampened paper and the pressure of a printing press.

Is it for me? Collagraphy lends itself to a more abstract approach to image-making with the emphasis on texture. It is an extremely exciting printmaking technique that can at times have similarities with painting and also involves lots of experimentation. A collagraph plate is so versatile that you can create different kinds of prints from a single plate. You will learn how to create both a relief and intaglio print and how both methods can be combined within the one print. Each participants will create a variety of wonderfully textured prints that display all of the above techniques.

Beginners and more experienced artist or printmakers are all welcome.
